PlusOne – Feeding the Less Fortunate in Kuwait

28.08.12

Starting with the donation of 21 meals from Hashtag Restaurant, PlusOne is an initiative that was inspired by “Draw a Smile,” a charitable campaign led by Ms. Bibi Al-Ayoub. PlusOne is a nonprofit initiative that is implemented throughout the network of participating venues in Kuwait. Although no one dies of hunger in Kuwait, there is a large group of people who cannot afford to dine at the fine restaurants that are enjoyed by many. This is where PlusOne comes in: They aim to turn these individuals – primarily blue-collared workers – into diners’ plus ones by offering them free, delicious meals that are enjoyed by the more fortunate in society. How does PlusOne work? While paying for his/her meal at a PlusOne participating restaurant, the customer may choose to donate KD 1, an amount that the restaurant owner will also provide. The end result would be a full meal that has been paid for by the customer and restaurant. The meal, prepared by the participating restaurant, would be offered to blue-collared workers in Kuwait.
