Al Yaal & Alghanim Industries Remove 3 Tonnes of Marine Waste & Engage 241 Volunteers

Alghanim Industries is a proud sponsor of Al Yaal, Kuwait’s first nationwide marine conservation initiative.With the company’s support, Al Yaal has been able to protect, conserve and restore Kuwait’s rich marine environment through weekly beach clean-ups, community engagement, volunteerism, education, advocacy and outreach.

Al Yaalhas been extremely active during the first three months of 2012, conducting a total of 12 weekly beach clean-ups at the ecologically-rich beaches of Doha, KISR, Sulaibikhat and Green Island. These are areas that have been negatively affected by high concentrations of direct and indirect man-made waste.

Some of the key highlights of Al Yaal’sachievements in the first quarter of 2012 include:

•    13,500 sqmof beach was cleaned
•    3683.5 kgs of waste was manually collected
•    241 volunteers were engaged, ranging in age from 6 – 70 years,originating from diverse backgrounds and nationalities, including Kuwaiti, Indian, Egyptian, Syrian, Sri Lankan, American, British, Canadian, Australian and South African.

The group’s recent clean-up activities included participation from The American University of Kuwait, The American International School, The Canadian Bilingual School, The Kuwait National English School, corporate employees,and the Kuwait Red Crescent Society’s medic trainee team amongst others.
